A long time ago one of the best leaders I ever worked for said that seeing the future as something other than the past is usually classified as insanity.gracemcdunnoughhttp://phasinggrace.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36762068.post-84395782945018244492010-08-10T14:59:28.806-04:002010-08-10T14:59:28.806-04:00Thanks for stopping by Debs :)Thanks for stopping by Debs :)gracemcdunnoughhttp://phasinggrace.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36762068.post-4905655525974658362010-08-10T14:58:57.362-04:002010-08-10T14:58:57.362-04:00I've been singing since this barge left the do...I've been singing since this barge left the dock mister! Like Tateru, I have been giving this some thought too and respond to posts here on my own blog. http://debsregent.blogspot.com/2010/08/does-second-life-need-to-be-saved.html simply because it's easier to respond there.

Everyone has valid points which are backed up by studies in these issues.

Thank you for posting, commenting, and allowing me to add to this discussion.DebsRegentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36762068.post-67962451142962404122010-08-09T17:45:01.891-04:002010-08-09T17:45:01.891-04:00"I'll just stand here clutching my sculpt..."I'll just stand here clutching my sculpted life preserver, sipping a glass of icy mint tea, singing to myself and wondering .."

.... at least the band on the Titanic had the decency to play to the sinking audience! I personally was looking forward to Mesh for a couple of projects but I'm uncertain it's going to happen now, and uncertainty is... well, it's disconcerting. I wonder when I'm going to log on and find the message that SL is going dark at the end of the month and then everything I've been working on the last couple of years will vanish into the ether, along with connections and friendships made.

It's that reflex of "What's that noise? Did we just hit an iceberg?"

I'm hopeful that the lights will stay on and things will at least just continue as they are, but with layoffs and projects being shelved and not a lot of info coming directly from the Lab, the vacuum is naturally filled by rumor and fearful whispers. This is a time when communication directly from LL is crucial, but it doesn't really seem to be forthcoming yet.Jamys Vuckovicnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36762068.post-61731707874833488532010-08-08T15:55:09.522-04:002010-08-08T15:55:09.522-04:00Sometimes I think that what many people really wan...Sometimes I think that what many people really want for the future of Second Life is... the past.

They want the Second Life that was there on the day that they fell in love with it.TateruNinonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36762068.post-7700369855978429172010-08-08T15:25:12.476-04:002010-08-08T15:25:12.476-04:00Interesting thoughts, Grace. What I've wonder...Interesting thoughts, Grace. What I've wondered about for a little while, but haven't found the right words for it are something along the lines of "What do people want for the future of Second Life?" Even now, I'm not sure that quite captures what I'm thinking. Complaining about Linden Lab and Second Life have long been sport for the Residents. Yet somehow recently the tenor of these complaints have shifted; I can't tell if people want to wall off Second Life and preserve a version of it that existed a few years ago or want to see it become used by millions more people. Your question of saving from what is a salient one. I would love to see more conversation about what people would like to see it become rather than throwing out suggestions for fixes in an unfocused way.Charlannabnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36762068.post-44741696304532922352010-08-08T10:56:01.980-04:002010-08-08T10:56:01.980-04:00I am still cautiously optimistic and I personally ...I am still cautiously optimistic and I personally am going to try to fixate on the things that don't come from Linden Lab - people, creativity, fun, and dinosaurs.gracemcdunnoughhttp://phasinggrace.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36762068.post-78516322967261551362010-08-08T10:42:46.370-04:002010-08-08T10:42:46.370-04:00I've thought along similar lines: http://dwell...I've thought along similar lines: http://dwellonit.taterunino.net/2010/07/30/does-second-life-really-need-saving/TateruNinonoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36762068.post-7445649314740258482010-08-08T10:41:11.326-04:002010-08-08T10:41:11.326-04:00Grace, sigh. Economy? Summer? Layoffs? Does it matter? Perception is everything, and somehow I see the buzzards circling. Hope I am wrong.DrFran Babcockhttp://www.facebook.com/drfrannoreply@blogger.com
